A £25 million Planning Delivery Fund has been launched to help fund the delivery of new homes.
Announced by Housing and Planning Minister Alok Sharma, the aim of the new fund is to support the construction of homes in high demand areas, as well as help with the initial plans and necessary infrastructure.
With £11 million of the fund being made available now, councils will be able to acquire and develop the skills needed to build new homes of a high standard, whilst delivering them at a reasonable pace. The predominant aim is to support the building of quality homes by investing in both innovation and expert industry advice.
Commenting on the fund and what it could mean for the housing market, Alok Sharma stated: “Locally-led developments have enormous potential to deliver the scale and quality of housing growth that we need. By supporting our local authorities, we will be able to unlock more homes where people want to live.
“These measures including the £28m of government support which will help develop new communities that will not only help deliver high-quality well-designed homes, but will also bring new jobs and facilities and a boost to local economies.”
