GeoSmart joins CoPSO as an Executive Member

The innovative property reports and data provider to shape a sustainable future for environmental due diligence for property professionals.

GeoSmart Information, a sister company of ESI, one of the UK’s leading environmental consultancies, has joined The Council of Property Search Organisations (CoPSO) as an Executive Member.

CoPSO is the major trade association for the property search industry. Members provide a broad range of property search reports including local council searches, environmental, mining, drainage and water data. More than 2 million searches are processed each year, as part of conveyancing due diligence for residential and commercial property transactions.

CoPSO members must adhere to The Search Code, which provides protection for homebuyers, sellers, estate agents, conveyancers and mortgage lenders who rely on the information as part of a property transaction. The code sets out quality standards that reports have to meet and establishes best practice and rights of redress to safeguard consumer rights.

Formerly Envirep, the business rebranded and expanded its offering in December 2015 in response to the need for more sustainable risk analysis for property professionals. Its range of contaminated land, flood risk and sustainable drainage reports provide architects, developers and planning consultants with expert opinion on environmental risk, built on its scientific heritage and expert modelling.

Through CoPSO, GeoSmart will champion sustainable environmental data in the context of climate change and how it will affect property owners and asset managers.

“We must start accounting for long term climate change and extreme weather events, so that we can deliver a more sustainable future for property and infrastructure.” said Stuart Pearce, Managing Director, GeoSmart Information.

“Land owners and developers, as well as their legal representatives, must understand how local drainage conditions will affect construction now and in the future. As this winter has proven yet again, better, more holistic analysis is the key to smarter decision making.

“We look forward to help lead the drive to better protect our nation’s property and community resilience, as well as supporting property professionals in delivering a clear duty of care through better insight.”
