Conveyancing Firm Take Robust Steps To Protect Themselves From Cyber Attacks

Norfolk based conveyancing firm, EG Law is taking cyber security seriously after being awarded with Cyber Essentials certification through accredited assessor, Practical Vision Network.

The savvy Norwich based firm understands the huge benefits of gaining the certification, which is a Government backed accreditation scheme, that ultimately protects their business, prevents data breaches and demonstrates to their clients, other firms and stakeholders that cyber security is top of their agenda.

Practical Vision Network, incorporating leading risk management solutions provider, Lawyer Checker, who is best known for its conveyancing risk tool Account & Entity Screen, which verifies the legitimacy of the firm on the other side of the transaction, has developed its portfolio to include a range of cyber risk products.

Cyber Essentials certification is a ‘must have’ certification for law firms which protects them against 80% of common cyber attacks, whilst protecting the firm’s reputation and reinforces your commitment to fight against cyber criminals.

The National Centre for Cyber Security (NCSC) has identified the legal sector as a top target for cyber criminals. The sensitive data, large sums of money and important information that is held needs protecting to avoid severe damage to clients and your reputation.

According to the Solicitors Regulation Authority, there has been a continuing increase in reports of cyber crimes, with £10.7m of client money lost in 2017- and almost 80% of cyber crime is attributed to email modification fraud.

After falling victim to email impersonation fraud, whereby, criminals intercept and falsify emails between a client and their firm, EG Law wanted to demonstrate that they had taken the recommended steps to secure themselves and their clients from potential threats in the future.

EG Law are extremely aware of the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s (SRA) scam alerts to date so have enlisted the help of Lawyer Checker who conducts regular phishing tests and continually invest in ongoing training and education in cyber crime amongst their staff to create a culture within the firm.

Debbie Everett, Director at EG Law said:

“As electronic conveyancing becomes more prevalent, so the risk of cyber crime increases. Conveyancing is a prime target for fraudsters, and it is imperative that we take all available steps to safeguard our clients.”

EG Law specialises in purely conveyancing services including buying and selling a property; leasehold/freehold; buy to let; sale of land/part land sales; separation of title deeds and more. Their team are committed to a low volume, high quality conveyancing ethos and deliver the very best service by tailoring each transaction to meet their clients’ needs at a competitive price.

With solicitors and law firms facing increasing threats from cyber criminals as cyber crime becomes widespread in the UK, Cyber Essentials certification is designed to help law firms improve defences and publicly demonstrate a commitment to cyber security.
