Charity donations to be made by Searches UK & Groundsure to those affected by the holiday floods

After the recent spell of flooding across Yorkshire and Cumbria over the latter part of 2015, Searches UK & Groundsure have pledged to donate money to charity for every Groundsure Flood Report that is ordered through Searches UK.

Ordering a Flood Report during a property transaction to ensure solicitors and conveyancers are carrying out robust due diligence checks is more important than ever to help homebuyers determine if their future property may be affected by flooding.

A Groundsure Flood Report will reveal information about pluvial (surface water) flood risks based on data from JBA Risk Management and fluvial (river & stream) and tidal flood risk data from the Environment Agency. Information from the British Geological Survey will reveal how susceptible the property is to groundwater flooding and the report will also identify the likelihood of obtaining flood insurance.

Andrew Stenning, Managing Director, at Searches UK said:

“The recent flooding was particularly bad with thousands of homes being affected. When buying a new property it is so important to determine if it is in a flood plain area and how likely it is to be affected by flooding. We’re pleased to team up with Groundsure to donate money to the nominated appeals and we hope the money raised can really help get people back into their homes. It is a very sad reality that it only takes a few occurrences of extremely heavy rainfall to cause devastation to homes – I would encourage anyone buying a new home to get a flood search.”

Andrew Crawshaw, Strategic Account Manager, at Groundsure commented:

“It is imperative to understand all environmental issues especially flood risk prior to purchasing a property as this not only inundates homes with water but can have impacts on the structural integrity and seriously impact the availability and cost of home insurance. Groundsure fully supports both these amazing charities set up by the local communities.”

Money will be donated to two charities at the end of January: the Cumbria Flood Recovery Appeal and the Calderdale Flood Relief Appeal. Both were set up to aid families affected by the flooding at the end of 2015 and money raised will be put towards grants for emergency accommodation, cleaning materials including disinfectant and buying furniture and white goods to replace those that were irreparably damaged.

As the issue of flooding has become more prominent in the last few years, Searches UK have done all they can to highlight the importance of adding a flood search to the mix of standard searches requested when carrying out checks during a property transaction.

Free CPD webinars and seminars are also offered by Searches UK to investigate in greater detail flood risk areas, the consensus about flooding from The Law Society, why clients should be concerned and practical advice about flooding.

Searches UK provide a wide range of conveyancing searches for both residential and commercial properties, which include local authority searches, environmental searches, mining searches, planning searches plus many more.
