Biggest risks in conveyancing: Is your firm protected?

Lawyer Checker are pleased to announce our attendance at this year’s LFS Conveyancing Conference.

The annual event is commonly hailed as the biggest on the conveyancing calendar and it’s not hard to see why. As well as highlighting a range of developments and challenges within the industry, the Conference provides professionals with the perfect opportunity to network and enhance their existing knowledge.

This year, Lawyer Checker will be aiming to do just that.

Protection of client money was recently highlighted as a priority risk in the SRA Risk Outlook 2017/18 and has become a growing concern for conveyancers and law firms alike. At a time when fraud is at an all-time high, it’s vital that conveyancers are alert to the risk and understand the importance of acting proactively.

Referencing a significant number of instances where email modification fraud has been used, the SRA advised considering the use of Lawyer Checker to verify that the bank details for a third-party law firm are genuine. It will only be through wide-scale adoption of a prevention strategy such as Lawyer Checker that firms will be able to effectively ensure that client funds are protected.

As risk prevention is our main area of expertise, we are holding a number of expert talks on the subject throughout the day of the LFS Conference. Taking place in a sponsored breakout room, the topical presentations will be delivered by a range of industry experts, all with an aim to increase awareness of risk and how to avoid it.

The speakers confirmed so far include:

The Solicitors Regulation Authority – Crispin Passmore

The Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) – Price and Quality Transparency by Stephen Ward

Honne – Fraudsters, supermarket giants and the end of the profession by Katie Jackson

Legal Eye – GDPR & how your firm can prepare for the changes by Paul Saunders

Polymorph – Office 365 and Cyber Security by Steve Harris

Brighter Law Solutions – Cybercrime and Property Fraud; a Mishcon Special by Trevor Hellawell

In addition to the range of expert talks, Lawyer Checker will also be delivering a demonstration of our market-leading risk management tools, providing attendees with an exclusive opportunity to see them operate in real time.

As well as being able to get to grips with the process first hand, the demonstration will also highlight how easily a risk prevention strategy can be adopted into everyday practice.

The LFS Conference is set to take place on the 20th September at the Vox Centre in Resorts World, Birmingham. To find out more information about the Conference and how you can attend, please click here.
