YouGov research proves customers need for online access to conveyancing services

A recent study conducted by YouGov saw more than 4 out of 10 consumers demanding online access to conveyancing services.

This research sought to investigate the consumer habits of 4,000 buyers and sellers within the residential property market. As such a significant level of consumers are seeking online tools and support, is the conveyancing industry catering for this requirement?

According to property data and service provider, TM Group, 83% of conveyancers don’t have a quote facility on their website (or aren’t aware if they do). This suggests an inherent lack of necessity and understanding within the sector for providing the consumer with what they are looking for from a service provider.

Yvonne Hirons, MD of E-Plus, the revolutionary new conveyancing quotation and referral system, which includes a customer facing quotation calculator, comments:

“We developed the E-plus system in response to market changes.

“Our conveyancing quotation and referral system is designed to enable law firms to provide an improved conveyancing service to their local estate agents and brokers. Law firms can set their own prices and milestones according to introducer and have the ability to cobrand with local introducers.

“The end result is an improved customer journey and the ability to provide the online access that most clients now expect.”

Paul Hajek of Bristol-based Clutton Cox says:

“Conveyancing solicitors have been put off from having their fees online, rightly perhaps in many cases, as price without context equals commodity.

“As part of our online marketing strategy over many years, we have created a variety of legal content through the utilisation of blogging, slideshare guides, eBooks, book, video and infographics. This has led to over 9,000 visits to our site each month last year, proving these methods do attract results.

“We also use sophisticated software with landing page integration, along with a follow up marketing sequence, for everyone who downloads a conveyancing quote. We feel our charges can be justified in the context of what we offer to prospects, who are able to discover more about our service offering through the range of free, and more importantly useful, material available.

“The question conveyancing solicitors should ask themselves is, if they were in the shoes of a prospect looking for online conveyancing quotes – what emotion would they feel if the facility was not available – disappointment and annoyance? At worst they may feel the conveyancing firm had something to hide and shouldn’t be trusted.

“From my experience, when prospects get in touch they are usually already quite a long way down the road to choosing a law firm – the sales funnel if you will.

“The internet is a breeding ground for self- knowledge; a prospect’s ability to preselect a law firm from the quality of its content cannot be underestimated.

“Having an online conveyancing calculator is an invaluable marketing tool.”
