Transactions increase in March

According to the March RICS survey, both sales per surveyor and newly agreed sales have risen over the last month.

Sales per surveyor rose by 3.4% on the month to 17.4, the highest level in three years.

March saw an increase in new buyer enquiries following a subdued start to the year, although instructions remained flat.

Transactions also increased, with newly agreed sales rising for the third consecutive month.

RICS pointed to the impact that Funding for Lending has already had on the market.

Prices have remained fairly static during the period with the ‘headline’ national price balance edging up from -7 to -1 i.e. 1%, surveyors reported price falls rather than rises over the last three months.

Looking ahead, surveyors point to a positive year with prices and sales both expected to rise.

As ever London prices continue to rise at a far greater rate than in other regions.

However, improvements were seen across the majority of regions.
