Top 50 law firm secures Law Society’s CQS

Shoosmiths, a top 50 law firm, has recently become the largest law firm in England and Wales to achieve the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS).  The CQS is considered the “mark of excellence for the home buying process”.
With 98 partners covering offices in Northampton, London, Birmingham, Southampton, Manchester, Basingstoke, Nottingham, Reading and Milton Keynes the “robust” assessment carried out by the Law Society would have taken a considerable amount of time.
Shoosmiths’ accreditation brings the total number of CQS firms to just over 650 with over 1000 law firm branches, throughout England and Wales.
Desmond Hudson, Law Society Chief Executive, says:
“Shoosmiths’  accreditation illustrates that CQS is an initiative that is suitable for firms of all sizes. It is a testament to the CQS initiative itself and the firms, from sole practitioners to the larger, national firms that have achieved CQS status, that it is accessible to all types of legal practices.
Firms, like Shoosmiths, which have gone through the CQS application and assessment process, have gained the quality mark in recognition of the high standards they have met in residential conveyancing. CQS is the benchmark for the conveyancing sector. Shoosmiths’ commitment to securing CQS is further acknowledgement of the high standards the scheme embodies.”
To attain CQS practices are required to undergo a strict assessment but in order to maintain CQS practices are required to undertake compulsory training, self reporting, random audits and annual reviews.
David Parton, Partner at Shoosmiths, says:
“We are delighted to have secured CQS accreditation. It is recognition that our Access Legal from Shoosmiths’ consumer services meet the benchmark for conveyancing set by the Law Society and enables our current and future residential conveyancing clients to identify the excellent service level we provide at what is often a stressful time for many people.”
Shoosmiths’ clients receive a reliable, efficient service which is at the heart of our firm’s ethos and the CQS standard."
There has been much discussion about whether CQS is a good or a bad thing but with Shoosmiths attaining the mark will that change what other large law firms think, and do, about it?
