Too stressed, under paid in a firm that doesn’t value conveyancing?

Karen Babington of Today’s Conveyancer Jobs reviews the conveyancing jobs market and sees conveyancers are starting to vote with their feet.  The question is are you in the right role?

Today’s Conveyancer Jobs board was re-launched three months ago and we have been surprised by its success and growth.
With over 300 jobs having been posted and thousands of visitors to the site Karen Babington, Director said “We knew that there was a shortage of conveyancers and many firms would advertise for roles but we have been surprised at the amount of candidates that are now moving firms.  Time and time again we hear of people that feel that they are under too much pressure, are unpaid and work in firms where they do not believe that the strategy of the firms will enable it to do conveyancing in the long term.”
Karen went on to say that Today’s Conveyancer Jobs is really grateful for the support of major recruitment firms like G2 Legal, BCL and many conveyancers in ensuring that all the major conveyancing jobs appear on our site.
Salary rates have risen, benefits improved, and with the increase in conveyancing transactions — both transactional and remortgage – many firms are struggling to fill roles and are prepared to pay more for good staff.   Firms like Premier Property Lawyers who are seeking to recruit 300 conveyancers in Manchester have caused a ripple effect with staff  travelling in from surrounding areas causing their roles being back filled from further afield.  So if someone moves to Manchester from Warrington, the Warrington role might be filled from Chester and the Chester role being filled from North Wales.  The ripple effect is impacting wages across the region.
For the first time in years conveyancing salaries are rising with firms being prepared to pay more for staff.  The questions that candidates should therefore ask are:
Is my rate right for my experience?
Is the amount that I am being asked to conduct realistic and fair?
What career opportunities are there for me?
Does my practice have a long term strategy and commitment to the conveyancing market?
Today’s Conveyancer Jobs runs a separate confidential mailing list to Today’s Conveyancer so if you are a candidate seeking to understand your value in the market why don’t you sign up as a prospective candidate to have jobs sent to you automatically.
