SRA issues warning over fraud using the “Gordons LLP” Brand

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) released a warning today about scam artists claiming to be from a bona fide firm of solicitors.  The warning reads:
“The SRA has been informed that a number of individuals have been sent emails purportedly from Andrew Todd of Gordons LLP alleging that the recipient may be entitled to claim the estate of a deceased client of the firm.
The emails are being sent from various addresses; andrewtoddd@gmail.com, andrewtodd@legislator.comand andrewtodd@gordonsllp.com. These are not genuine contact details of Gordons LLP. The emails may ask the recipient to respond to another address along this theme.
If any member of the public receives any communications claiming to be from Gordons LLP or Andrew Todd with regard to claiming the estate of a deceased client and doubt it is genuine, they should report it to Gordons LLP at mail@gordonsllp.com, the firm’s genuine email address.
Any information about or dealings with Gordons LLP through the email addresses listed above or any suspected fraudulent communications using the Gordons LLP brand, particularly if it involves the payment of money should be reported to the police. Affected members of the public can also report the matter to the SRA via fraud@sra.org.uk. Solicitors should report the matter to the SRA red alert line on 0845 850 0999 or redalert@sra.org.uk.
