SRA issue warning over website

The SRA has today issued a warning about the website www.preston-hubbard.co.uk.  The website purports to relate to a law firm in London, but the SRA records show that no such firm is regulated by the SRA.  
The warning is set out below:
‘The SRA has received information in relation to the website www.preston-hubbard.co.uk. The web site relates to a law firm in London by the name of Preston Hubbard & Co but the SRA’s records show that there is no such solicitors’ practice authorised or regulated by the SRA. The website shows an address of 34 Essex Street, The Strand, London WC2R 3JF and telephone number 020 7060 6232.
Information on the website links three solicitors to the firm, Mr Paul Durban, Mr Thomas Bannister and Mr Vance Chapman. These individuals are solicitors, authorised and regulated by the SRA, but do not have any connection to Preston Hubbard & Co.
All three solicitors are employed at Bingham McCutchen (London) LLP (SRA number 328388) which is a genuine solicitor’s practice and is authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Any business or transactions through the website of www.preston-hubbard.co.uk, the address at 34 Essex Street, The Strand, London WC2R 3JF or via the telephone number (020 7060 6232) are not undertaken by a solicitor’s practice authorised by the SRA, nor by a practice regulated by the SRA.
Any information about or dealings with www.preston-hubbard.co.uk, particularly if it involves the payment of money, should be reported urgently to the police. Affected members of the public can also report the matter to the SRA via fraud@sra.org.uk. Solicitors should report the matter to the SRA red alert line on 0845 8500999 or redalert@sra.org.uk.’
