RICS new president delivers inaugural address

The 2013-14 Presidential team at RICS have taken up their positions, with new President Michael Newey delivering his inaugural address last week.

He succeeds Alan Collett as president with Louise Brooke-Smith becoming the first female president elect in RICS 145-year history.

Mr Newey used his inaugural address to address four key themes;

1. The continuity of our profession and our role as custodians

2. Our public interest responsibilities

3. Professionalism the 21st Century

4. The modern business-like approach to running the Institution

He said of the future of RICS: “In 2013, our mission is clear: We exist primarily to “advance and enforce standards in land, property and the built environment and to promote the usefulness of the profession for the public good.

"We do this by setting standards for entry and for on-going behaviour and practice. We do this by shaping policy and practice through thought-provoking research. And we do all this with unwavering impartiality that shows no favour to individual members or employers.”
