‘Moving With the Times’ guest speaker judges right time for change

Harry Hill, one of the keynote speakers at this year’s ‘Moving With the Times’ National Conveyancing Conference, has shaken up the conveyancing market with his latest venture.  Hill, the founder of Rightmove and former Chief Executive of estate agency giant Countrywide, has himself moved into the rapidly developing sector of online conveyancing.
In-deed, the initiative of both Hill and Peter Gordon, formerly of 3i Group Plc, is an online residential conveyancing company.  Using a web-based business model and mobile phone technology, the company hopes to keep things simple. As it says on In-deed’s website: ‘All you want to do is move in’.  In-deed uses technology to help homebuyers, with the aim of making the entire vending process smoother. Buyers and sellers will be kept up to speed with ongoing developments in the property transaction with ‘live’ electronic updates rather than time-consuming phone calls. Moreover, customers will be quoted a one-off, all-in fee at the beginning, so they are aware of their total expenditure from the outset.  In a new innovation, customers are given unprecedented ‘open access’ to their case files detailing transaction progress, by using a secure, interactive website.
Hill considers that conveyancing methods are ripe for expansion and innovation: “Feudal methods of property transfer still apply unfortunately…it’s time for a new script. We can’t change the UK legal system. What we can do is continue to work with some of the best people in the industry to bring conveyancing up to date”.  Conveyancing today is a changing market and Hill’s won’t be the only company to develop online in this way.
Harry Hill is one of the keynote speakers at ‘Moving With the Times’, to be held on 7 September 2011 at the Barceló Hinckley Island Hotel, in Leicestershire. The event is hosted by Today’s Conveyancer. It is a full day’s conference, with some of the industry’s leading speakers in attendance. Rachel Lyndon from Today’s Conveyancer commented: “We are very pleased to have Mr Hill as one of our guest speakers.  His recent enterprise reiterates that he is at the forefront of developments in conveyancing online.  I’m sure the delegates will be keen to hear his views on the current conveyancing climate and where he sees the industry going”.
In addition to Hill, the conference’s other guest speakers include Chief Executive of the Law Society Desmond Hudson, regulatory expert Brian Rogers, Risk Manager Steve Ray, of Windsor Partners Professional Indemnity Insurance Brokers, and Eddie Goldsmith, of the Conveyancing Association.  Relevant key topic areas to be discussed in the course of the conference include outcome focused regulation, lender panel changes, the mortgage market, alternative business structures, changes to professional indemnity insurance rules and the importance of marketing and brand development.
The price of the conference is £175 plus VAT, per delegate. To book your place please visit the website www.todaysconveyancer.co.uk, call on 07983 485490 or email info@todaysconveyancer.co.uk for further information.
