Conveyancing trade body urges professionals to respond to leasehold consultation

The Conveyancing Association is calling for industry professionals to share their views on the leasehold consultation before it closes later today.

Launched earlier this year by the Department for Communities and Local Government, the consultation seeks views on regulation of letting and managing agents, as well as looking at the potential approaches that could be taken by the government to bring this into effect.

This call for evidence forms part of the governments wider aim to reform the current leasehold system, with this consultation in particular following proposals to tackle the imbalance of power in the private rental market.

Seeking to obtain a better understanding of the type of regulation needed to protect leaseholders and tenants, the responses received will help enable the government to bring forward more detailed proposals in 2018.

Although a number of organisations have published their responses to the consultation, the CA have stated that the level feedback received has been low, and are urging professionals to share their view before the deadline.

The survey closes today (29/11/17) at 11.45 pm.

It can be completed online here. Alternatively, responses can be sent to following email address: LEASEHOLD.Reform@communities.gsi.gov.uk.
