Connells acquire Independent estate agency Burchell Edwards

Connells estate agency have announced the successful acquisition of Midlands based Burchell Edwards, a 16 branch independent estate agency which incorporates the Ashley Adams branches.
The move also sees the conveyancing arm of Burchell Edwards, Be Legal, becoming a subsidiary of Connells own coneyancing service, Conveyancing Direct, although they will continue trading as Be Legal from their current office in Burton-upon-Trent.
Providing residential sales, lettings, conveyancing and mortgage advice across Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Birmingham, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, Connells investment into Burchell Edwards can only enhance their continued expansion, which includes a number of new branch openings during 2011.
Connells have recently carried out a recruitment drive which has seen the number of mortgage consultants double.
Conveyancing Services Director, Roger Wilson, said:
“This acquisition of an already successful and profitable independent estate agency and conveyancing firm will reinforce Connells’ strength in the Midlands housing market.
“I have been impressed with the way that Burchell Edwards and Be Legal proactively work together on transactions, and culturally, both businesses will fit well into the Connells Group”.
When asked whether the expansion means that the Connells panel will still continue to received the same amount of work or whether a greater proportion of conveyancing will be carried out in-house, Roger commented:
"It is very likely that Be Legal will take some work from some of our Connells branches in the future, as the market picks up, but the overall volumes of work for our current panel should be unaffected. We are strong supporters of the panel model, and Be Legal, as well as Conveyancing Direct, will be treated as panel firms, and will need to compete on service, just like the others."
