Can you let us know why the CML are holding the conference?
“The time seemed right to hold a conference focusing on the changes happening in the conveyancing market and bring lenders and conveyancers together to discuss issues in the market which impact across the differing sectors.”
What you are hoping to achieve from it – what will a successful conference feel like?
“At the most basic level a good constructive dialogue between the stakeholders on a range of issues.
A successful conference should enable the delegate to leave feeling stimulated by discussion, and take away positive outcomes that they can use within their every day job roles. A successful conference will be seen as a good mix of lenders and conveyancers on the day — we currently have 8 lenders and 9 law firms booked so this is promising for the day.”
Will this become an Annual Event?
“This depends on the policy focus of CML. We anticipate that we will hold another conveyancing specific conference next year, but thereafter will depend on policy priorities and needs.
Conveyancing issues are covered every year in existing events such as the legal issues conference and other seminars.”
What are the three key challenges that lenders face when dealing with conveyancers?
“The key challenge is Accessing information about conveyancers to enable them to risk-assess competency and trust-worthiness
The other is ensuring that conveyancers do follow lender instructions.”
What do you think the three key challenges are for conveyancers working for lenders?
“Possibly that they feel lender clients are more demanding. They may struggle to balance the interests of lenders and the borrowers as clients.”
