Claims for mortgage repossession rise

The number of mortgage possession claims have seen a growth over the last six months according to statistics from the Ministry of Justice.

In addition to this kind of claim rising by 6%, the data also indicated a growth in the number of orders made in country courts, increasing by 26% in just half a year.

Middlesborough was found to be the ‘most at risk’ repossession location, with additional research from Sellhousefast revealing that per 100,000 households, 44.3 were subject to a claim. At 43.6, Oldham was close behind, with Thurrock’s rate standing at 43.2.

Areas with the lowest proportion of mortgage repossession claims included Cambridge and South Northamptonshire, at 1.9 and 2.6 respectively. However, some locations – the Isles of Scilly, Tewkesbury, Rutland and Ryedale – saw no claims made at all.
