Buy your new domain name before a criminal does

The .uk domain registry company, Nominet, has revealed it will be launching a new, shorter domain name of simply .uk, instead of example.co.uk or example.org.uk.

The launch date of the new domain name is set for 08.00 on 10 June this year, but for all 10.5million names already registered to a .co.uk domain, the rights to the .uk domain are automatically being reserved until 10 June 2019, after which the domain name becomes available for anyone to buy.

In light of the recent fraudulent emails that used the name of the SRA and Conveyancer Today’s recent article on the rise of bogus law firms, conveyancers are urged to buy up the domain names before criminals can.

As covered previously, solicitors firms are increasingly becoming a target for cyber crime, either from competition abroad who want access to information, or opportunists who defraud clients by making them believe they are the legitimate company, so buying up the reserved domain names could help to protect your company.
