Award winning law practice expands and opens conveyancing centre of excellence

A South Wales legal practice is expanding and opening a specialist conveyancing centre of excellence in Bridgend with the aim of becoming one of the top five conveyancing firms in the UK.

The investment by Howells Solicitors is backed by £100,000 from the Welsh Government’s Economic Growth Fund to create thirteen new jobs and safeguard a further three as the company establishes a new conveyancing hub.

Howells Solicitors, which is headquartered in Cardiff with a branch network of six offices extending from Swansea in the West to Newport in the East, is expanding in response to significant new opportunities arising from the re-emergence of the property market post-recession.

“Its new conveyancing hub in 1 Court Road, Bridgend will continue to represent local clients and also serve all parts of the UK, with a strong focus on the English market.”

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “Legal services are a key component of the financial and professional services sector – one of our priority economic sectors that is expanding rapidly.

“The growth of the legal sector in Wales is high on the Welsh Government’s agenda and I am pleased the Economic Growth Fund is supporting the expansion of Howells Solicitors, creating new jobs and opening up new market opportunities across the UK.”

Managing Director Mark Hobbs said: “This is a great opportunity to build on our success, expand into the wider UK market and offer a high quality, competitively priced service to customers and partner organisations in England. Support from the Welsh Government has enabled us to take immediate advantage of the emerging market opportunities and to expand and create jobs in Wales which is great news.

“Data from HM Land Registry places Howells Solicitors in the top 20 conveyancing firms in the UK and we now want to build on the existing strength of our brand to achieve Top Five status.”

Howells Solicitors won Bronze in The Sunday Times 2013 UK Conveyancer Awards, becoming the highest placed solicitors in Wales and South England. In 2014 Howells added to their impressive list of awards by winning the prestigious LFS Regional Best Conveyancer award and was shortlisted for the LFS Best Large Conveyancer in England/Wales Award. In 2015 they have also successfully been shortlisted for those awards again with the results being announced in September at the annual dinner.

It has also achieved accreditation with The Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) designed for practices that offer residential conveyancing and are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Since inception in 2011, the CQS has, year on year, helped to deter fraud and continually improve standards across the residential conveyancing sector.
