15% rise in conveyancing cases

The level of conveyancing work carried out in Britain has risen 15% over the last 12 months according to research from property search provider SearchFlow.

59% of firms saw work increasing over the last year with only 7% experiencing decreased work.

These increases do not follow transaction levels which according to the Land Registry House Price Index fell 3% over the last year.

The SearchFlow report also asked firms about their views on the current business landscape. 27% felt the main threat to the industry came from lenders’ panel selection decisions.

Compliance was seen as a key area for focus with 73% saying that they now had to conduct extra work in order to maintain compliance. 22% had increased resources to keep up with these requirements.

Marshall King, chief executive of SearchFlow, said: “The fact that firms are not yet taking on resource indicates that the recovery is still seen as fragile.

“The combination of the rise in workload and increased compliance requirements mean firms need to ensure their processes and procedures are as streamlined and efficient as possible.”
