Welsh Property Market Restrictions Relaxed

Relaxations to the lockdown in Wales have been announced by the Welsh First Minster Mark Drakeford.

Amongst them are the re-opening of non-essential shops, and tentative steps to reopening the property market from Monday 22nd June.

The housing market is anticipated to re-start in some capacity with house viewings in vacant properties allowed and home moves continuing where a sale has been agreed previously but not yet completed.

But the measures fall short of the English market where the sector has been reopen since 13th May.

One of the biggest obstacles, the confusing “stay local” rule; whereby people are only allowed to travel beyond five miles from their home for very specific reasons, has been lifted for property.

Further advice will be published on the Welsh Government’s website over the course of the day: https://gov.wales/coronavirus

Mark Hayward, Chief Executive, NAEA Propertymark and David Cox, Chief Executive, ARLA Propertymark have comment on the advice from Welsh government on moving home during the Covid-19 outbreak:

“We welcome today’s announcement reopening the housing market in Wales. However, the guidance issued will have a greater impact on the sales market as there still are some significant restrictions in place meaning the market will not be able to fully open.

The announcement of the reopening comes on the day the UK’s Covid-19 alert has been reduced from 4 to 3 with further restrictions anticipated to be relaxed in the coming weeks.
