Watford Join LLC As Peterborough Experience Technical Error

On the day Watford became the ninth local authority to migrate over to HM Land Registry’s digital Local Land Charges system, searches to Peterborough council were unavailable.

Despite only migrating their systems to HM Land Registry’s (HMLR) digital Local Land Charges a week ago, Peterborough City Council has been unable to conduct searches following a ‘technical error’.

HMLR has said they are working to fix the error and will provide an update as soon as they understand and rectify the issue.

Peterborough City Council joined Warwick District Council, Liverpool, City of London, Blackpool, Isles of Scilly, Norwich and Lambeth to become the eighth local authority signed up to the digital register.

HMLR has faced criticism over the time it takes to fully migrate a local authority and have already reduced their target to between 50 and 60 authorities per year and this latest technical clitch may not inspire Watford as they join the national register.

Anyone requiring local land charges searches in the local authority area of Watford Borough Council will need to go directly to HMLR as opposed to the council.

A statement from HM Land Registry, read:

“We are currently experiencing a technical issue with our Local Land Charges service for searches relating to the Peterborough City Council area.

“We are working to rectify the issue as soon as possible. While we do this, searches for Peterborough are unavailable.

“Searches for all other areas live on the service are available as normal.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.

“We will provide an update as soon as the issue is resolved.”

Helen Fisher, Head of Place Shaping at Watford Borough Council, commented:

“We are pleased to be at the forefront of this digital transformation. Our local land charges data was a mixture of computerised and paper records. By updating our local land charges data into a single digital source, we are providing confidence in the accuracy of the data and helping to improve the efficiency of buying and selling property in Watford.”

Karina Singh, Director of Transformation at HM Land Registry, said:

“Watford Borough Council and HM Land Registry have worked together closely to migrate their complex and large dataset to our national, digital Local Land Charges Register. I am delighted that people buying property in Watford will now have access to instant local land charges search results, meaning it will be quicker and simpler to buy and sell property in the area.”
