Technical Specialists Appointed To Ready Land For Future Builds

Homes England have appointed technical specialists to help facilitate three national framework panels as the government prepare to ensure more public sector land, both brown and green belt, is fit to build upon.

Homes England is looking to support the public and private construction sector where building of new homes is being delayed and hindered by unforeseen difficulties like unsafe asbestos on a site build.

It is hoped that the three national frameworks will ensure that the land is fit for purpose to help the government achieve their target of 300,000 new homes per year.

The three frameworks will cost the government £30 million in services and the specialists appointed, including a number of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are set to ‘increase the pace, scale and quality of development and accelerate delivery of new homes in areas of greatest demand.’

The Asbestos Framework will look to de-risk sites prior to the land being made available to developers. It is thought that the cost of ridding available land of asbestos will be around £10 million.

Additionally, the Estates Management Services Framework will cost around £15 million and the Land Survey Framework will be offered £5 million to spend on specialist services to ensure the land that is bought is safe and adequate for building on.

Stephen Kinsella, Executive Director for Land, at Homes England, said:

“Specialists appointed to these frameworks bring with them a wealth of knowledge and technical expertise that will enhance the work of Homes England.

“This will help us meet our ambition to accelerate housebuilding and help to deliver the Government’s ambition of 300,000 new homes per year required to alleviate the shortage of new homes in England.”

One Response

  1. More money for consultants.

Will the Government (aka taxpayers) provide this or will owners be required to pay out of the proceeds of sale?
