SRA Interventions: GS Law LLP (formerly PHD Law LLP) and Andrew John Taylor

The Adjudication Committee of the SRA has resolved to intervene into Kanwar Bhan, Monika Narad and Mohammad Rashid Shaikh and their firm GS Law LLP (formerly PHD Law LLP).

The ground for intervention for the firm, formerly of 31a South Road, Southall, Middlesex UB1 1SW and 37 Cartwright Street, Wolverhampton, West Midlands WV2 3BT, were:

– Failure to comply with any rules applicable to the body or manager by virtue of section 9 of the Administration of Justice Act

– Reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of any manager or employee of a recognised body, namely Bhan

– Failure to comply with the rules made by virtue of section 31 or 32 of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended)

The grounds for intervention against Bhan were:

– Reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of a solicitor or an employee of a solicitor

– Failure to comply with any rules applicable to the body or manager by virtue of section 9 of the Administration of Justice Act

– Failure to comply with the rules made by virtue of section 31 or 32 of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended)

The grounds for intervention for Shaikh were:

– Failure to comply with any rules applicable to the body or manager by virtue of section 9 of the Administration of Justice Act

– Failure to comply with the rules made by virtue of section 31 or 32 of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended).

The grounds for intervention for Narad were:

– Failure to comply with any rules applicable to the body or manager by virtue of section 9 of the Administration of Justice Act

– Failure to comply with the rules made by virtue of section 31 or 32 of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended).

The SRA has appointed Nick Billingham of Devonshires, 30 Finsbury Circus, London EC2M 7DT, tel: 020 7628 7576, DX: 33856 Finsbury Square, to act as their agent. He took possession of GS Law LLP’s (formerly PHD Law LLP) practice papers on Tuesday 23 July 2013.

Bhan, Shaikh and Narad’s current practising certificates have been suspended with immediate effect.

The practice of Andrew John Taylor has also seen intervention on the ground that there was reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of Mr Taylor.

Mr Taylor was practising in partnership with Doreen Lovett under the name ‘Andrew J Taylor’, formerly of Westend Chambers, 10 Wilmslow Road, Cheadle SK8 1BT.

Lovett’s practice has not been affected by the intervention and is continuing.

The first date of attendance was 25 July 2013, Taylor’s practising certificate was suspended with immediate effect.
