Solicitors vote for winners at the Land Data 2015 Local Land Charges Awards

The 8th Local Land Charges Awards took place in Bristol during a ceremony hosted by BBC sports presenter Hazel Irvine. The national awards, celebrate the work and achievements of local authority local land charges departments which carry out the land and property searches required for conveyancing transactions in England and Wales.

Torridge District Council was awarded the Customer Satisfaction Award for Local Authority Searches, sponsored by Thames Water Property Searches. West Devon Borough Council was highly commended.

Solicitors around the country were asked to nominate a local authority local land charges team that they feel is consistently committed to delivering a high level of customer service. Solicitors were asked to consider quality, efficiency, reliability and value for money when making their choice. A total of 55 local authorities were nominated. Solicitors commented:

“Torridge District Council’s Land Charge service surpasses any other councils. Kevin Crowl is excellent. The Searches are returned within days – they are so efficient and are extremely helpful should you need to speak to them.

“An extremely efficient, proactive service. They know where to find what is needed and act on it personally and immediately.”

The Best Customer Experience Award, sponsored by SearchFlow, was awarded to Wealden District Council, South Hams District Council was highly commended. This award celebrates and promotes excellence in customer experience rewarding those local authorities that partner with the NLIS Channels to offer an exceptional customer experience and deliver industry leading levels of service.

NLIS channels nominate local authorities who offer value added services in order to make the search process smoother and a lawyer’s life easier, examples include prioritising an urgent search if requested, notifying the NLIS Hub within 24 hours of making a change to service delivery, always providing a detailed explanation in the event of rejecting a search and supplying readily available electronic copy documents on request.

For both categories judges were asked to draw out achievements and examples of excellence and apply weighted scoring to each entry.

The awards evening is sponsored by the National Land Information Service (NLIS), SearchFlow, Thames Water Property Searches, the Local Land Charges Institute and TM Group.
