SLC/BLG Conference Availability Limited
Record attendance once again but still time to book
With under two weeks to go to the Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC)/ Bold Legal Group (BLG) Conference in Derby, it is not too late to book a place. The conference is unique in that it is organised by conveyancers for conveyancers and the agenda has been put together to cover the issues that are foremost in the minds of the profession. This year will see a record attendance again as the Conference has become the ‘go to’ event of the year for Conveyancers.
With Veyo apparently undergoing yet another review, the Conference provides the opportunity to take a look at the alternative system called Free2Convey and to debate if a portal of this nature really could transform the home buying and selling process. And what about Gazeal, will this result in buyers and sellers being committed much earlier in the conveyancing process? With Hannah Mackinlay covering the hot conveyancing topics of the moment and Richard Hinton talking about developing new business insights there will be a lot of practical content.
The Council for Licensed Conveyancers will be out in force and available to meet ‘one on one’ with the regulated Licensed Conveyancer community, and also any solicitor firms interested in switching regulator.
The Chief Executive of the Land Registry, Graham Farrant, will be on hand to talk about their future strategy and provide an update on the registration backlogs which have been a problem for conveyancers for such a long time now. In addition, Howdens, the providers of the SLC PI Insurance scheme, will talk about risk and cyber crime and how this can be mitigated. Howdens representatives will also be available to talk about the 2016 PI renewal process and discuss any issues with existing and prospective users of their policies.
As ever the lender community will be represented by Paul Broadhead from the Building Societies Association and Neil Scriven from Barclays and there will be an opportunity to discuss the apparent inequity whereby conveyancers acting for mortgage lenders take on a lot of risk for no recompense (in fact now pay for the privilege!) in a panel session later in the day.
With the ever entertaining Kate Faulkner setting the scene with a forward view of the property market, and the keynote speaker Dame Janet Paraskeva talking about the future landscape for the provision of legal services it will be a very full day, attracting 6 CPD points. The Conference is free to attend for SLC members and for a representative from each BLG member firm and open to all other legal professionals at the very reasonable rate of £100.
Simon Law, Chairman of the SLC said: “The theme of this year’s conference is about conveyancers starting to shape their own destiny and having a stronger voice with other stakeholders in the future working of the property market. We are looking for a lot of interaction with the speakers and delegates. As the SLC has continued to grow in numbers and influence, we are delighted once again to be working with the Bold Legal Group whose outreach in the profession continues to grow.”
Rob Hailstone, founder of BLG commented: “The Conference provides a great opportunity not just to benefit from the excellent agenda on offer, but also to network with members and fellow professionals. I am really pleased to team up with the SLC once again this year in the only event in the Conference calendar organised by conveyancers for conveyancers.”
