General Election: Prime Minister to try forming minority government
The prime minister is set to seek permission to form a UK government at 12:30 today.
Despite being unable to obtain a majority in yesterday’s election, it has been reported that Theresa May will attend Buckingham Palace at lunchtime today in an attempt to remain in office.
As a majority of 326 seats was not reached, the formation of this minority government will require the support of the Democratic Unionist Party, which won 10 seats.
It is believed that if the DUP agree to this proposal, the administration will be formed through an informal arrangement.
Despite reportedly stating that they are prepared to form their own minority government, it is unlikely that the Labour party would be able to reach a majority, even with the combined seats of other parties.
