New year, new lockdown?
News that the coronavirus pandemic continues to pick up momentum again, continues to worry everyone across the board. Prime Minister Boris Johnson appeared on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show on Sunday to discuss the possible introduction of a Tier 5 in England.
It appears tougher restrictions are still needed due to the rising number of positive cases and increasing number of deaths whilst the vaccination programme picks up momentum, following the rollout of the Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines across the UK beginning with the clinically vulnerable and those most at risk.
Speaking on the Andrew Marr show, the PM said:
“It may be that we need to do things in the next few weeks that may be tougher. I’m fully reconciled to that. I think the whole country is fully reconciled to that.”
“The virus is clearly out of control. There’s no good the Prime Minister hinting that further restrictions are coming into place in a week, or two or three. That delay has been the source of so many problems. So, I say, bring in those restrictions now, national restrictions, within the next 24 hours. That has to be the first step to controlling the virus.”
