Following a review of its land holdings a Lancashire council is offering three plots of land for sale, with planning permission, to potential self-builders.
West Lancashire Borough Council are offering the plots for immediate purchase and say that it is likely that there will be other plots becoming available throughout the borough so self-builders should check their website for updates.
Counsellor Adrian Owens, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Estates, commented:
“We are offering these sites for sale as we are carrying out a review of the Council’s landholdings, with the aim of ensuring that our property portfolio is focused and sustainable”.
We recently reported that Housing Minister, Grant Shapps intends to double the size of the market
in the next ten years, this could be a step in the right direction but how long will self-builders have to wait before other councils follow suit?
The plots available so far have planning permission for a single residential property, two semi-detached houses and two semi-detached bungalows. It’s not 13,000 plots but it is a start.
