First volume conveyancer attains CQS

Barnetts Solicitors, a leading provider of volume conveyancing to lenders, has become the first volume conveyancer in England & Wales to achieve the Conveyancing Quality Scheme accreditation.
Around 800 firms have so far made an application to join the scheme but Barnetts is the first of its size to achieve the quality mark.  Richard Barnett, Senior Partner at Barnetts, has said:
"CQS has been designed to be obtainable for a range of business models and while Barnetts Solicitors is the first volume conveyancer in England & Wales to obtain the CQS status there have been sole practitioners and mid-sized firms who have also gained CQS accreditation.
We are delighted to have secured CQS accreditation.  Not only is it recognition of the high standards we apply to conveyancing services, it is a signal to home buyers and lenders that we provide that level of service.”
The Conveyancing Quality Scheme may have divided opinions in the profession but there is no escaping the fact that we all wait to hear which firms have applied and been successful in gaining accreditation.
Richard a Council Member and Head of the Conveyancing and Land Law Committee added:
“It would be premature to say the housing market is well on the road to recovery, but first time buyers and those already on the housing ladder who are seeking conveyancing services now have the option, in CQS, of choosing a new type of conveyancer which offers a standard of excellence in what is, for most people, the most important purchase of their lives”.
I remain to be convinced that sellers and buyers will look for the Conveyancing Quality Scheme kitemark when searching for a conveyancing provider — most prospective clients will be looking for a reasonable quote and an understanding of their situation.  Not all potential clients search the internet so are not likely to see the kitemark until initial letters are sent out.  It is also true to say that not all are looking for the cheapest quote either.
