Estate Agent Consultation On Code Of Conduct Opens

Estate Agent Consultation On Code Of Conduct Opens

Estate agents have been given the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions on what they think should be in the new Code of Conduct.

The Code of Practice Steering Group, chaired by Baroness Dianne Hayter has asked for estate agents for their input and this week have opened their Draft Code of Practice: RICS and TPO’s Regulation of Property Agents (RoPA) consultation.

The new Code of Conduct was discussed following the Regulation of Property Agents report produced by Lord Best in 2019.

In his report, he outlined 14 recommendations, stating:

“It is envisaged that agents will be personally accountable for compliance with the Code through a future licencing and regulatory regime.”

Baroness Hayter, said:

“The new code of practice will look to set standards at a higher level than currently legally set. The ambition of the code is that it will become a requirement for obtaining a licence to practice in the future, which will increase trust across the sector.

“Input from consumers, stakeholders, interest groups and the industry is paramount to ensuring that the Code of Practice is balanced, fit for purpose and meets the requirements of a future Regulator.”

Have your input on the consultation here. The closing date for input if Friday 4 September 2020.
