December sees drop in sales received for registration

Price paid data from HM Land Registry sets out the details of residential and commercial land and property sales in England and Wales.

During December 2017, 76,327 sales were received for registration, representing a month on month fall of 30085.

Of those that received registration, 56,161 were freehold, down 13.5% compared to December 2016. New builds saw a more significant drop, with figures down 22.4% on last year’s total to 9,854.

The types of property that made up sales received for registration are as follows:

  • 19,809 were terraced
  • 19,216 were semi-detached
  • 17,395 were detached
  • 14,523 were flats/maisonettes
  • 5,384 were classed as other

In December 2017, the most expensive residential sales took place in the City of Westminster, where a terraced property sold for £10,075,000.

The cheapest, however, occurred in Llanelli, where a terraced property sold for £15,000.

Commercially speaking, the most expensive sales during the final month of last year took place in Walthamstow for £33,809,500.

The cheapest commercial sales took place in Tunbridge Wells, Chigwell and Welwyn Hatfield, with properties each selling for £100.
