Conveyancing Summit and awards

On Thursday the first Conveyancing Summit was held by EA Live. After seminars in the morning, the Estate Agency Awards featuring awards for small and large conveyancer of the year were held.

The awards were presented by double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington and Brad Marsh of sponsors Safe Move.

Cunningtons took home the award for best conveyancer of the year.

Ashfords won the best large conveyancer of the year award for the second year in the row.My Home Move/Premier Property Lawyers were in second place with Barnetts in third.

In the small conveyancer of the year category Cunningtons took gold, whilst Awdry Bailey and Douglas got silver and Smart Legal got Bronze.

The seminar started with a Q&A hosted by Ben Harris from the TM Group. The panel featured Mark Harrison, Sarah Tucker and Bob Hay, all Estate Agency leaders from a range of different companies across the UK.

The panel discussed many aspects of how estate agents manage conveyancing leads, and what they look for in recommending a conveyancer to their clients.

All three said that price was not the main driver in decision making with good customer service instead being paramount.

Chris Harris, of Today’s Conveyancer, gave an update on the changing face of the conveyancing industry and what 2013 might bring to the market.

Peter Knight, Chairman of both The Property Academy and Estate Agency Events presented ‘HEMP’, the ‘Highly Effective Marketing Plan’ his bestselling book published in 2003 whilst awards presenter Rebecca Adlington shared the story of her inspirational career.

Cambridge economist Casper Berry, a former professional poker player in Las Vegas, talked about human decision making and risk taking using his first hand experience of perhaps the most competitive environment of all.
