Launch of Kindness Pledge

The last 12 months has resulted in a roller coaster of emotions as people have faced many different battles both in their personal and professional lives.

April is Stress Awareness month and here at Today’s Conveyancer we thought it would be the right time to reaffirm the commitment we’ve all made as an industry to help each other navigate through these tough times, and launch our Call for Kindness pledge.

David Opie, Managing Director of Today’s Media who publish Today’s Conveyancer, said:

“At a time when practitioners around the country are under pressure, Today’s Conveyancer’s “Call for Kindness” encourages all those involved in the conveyancing process to respect one another, relate to the challenges we all face and recognise our own roles when it comes to interacting with fellow professionals.

“For many of us, the challenges of home working and home-schooling have at times been relentless, and as such the levels of stress each one of us are under at any one time will vary. Remember, everyone is in the same position. Everyone is human and doing their best. And most importantly take the time to appreciate what everyone is doing. The impact on the conveyancing communities wellbeing will be felt for some time and with the market showing no signs of slowing, there is a need to recognise the short, medium and long term effect on our industry.

“We can all take responsibility for setting the right tone to create positive and productive outcomes for our clients and each other. A negative interaction is unproductive.”

Mental health and stress have been phrases that we’ve heard regularly over the course of this pandemic, and people have all been affected in different ways.

With this in mind, we would like to see how our readers are feeling. We know the last 12 months have thrown various battles including the stamp duty land tax holiday and subsequent extension and tapering, and delays in the housing transaction pipeline causing frustrations across the board.

For those in the legal sector there are resources available to help practitioners with their mental health and well-being. The Conveyancing Foundation has launched their ‘Be Kind, We Care’ initiative, which has a dedicated resource hub, which offers access to a host of useful guides, top tips, podcasts and webinars to provide support to the industry.
