Conveyancers Told To Embrace The Digital World
Delegates attending the Conveyancing Association’s annual conference last week heard a series of presentations about how technology is changing the way that conveyancers work; and the ways in which consumers expect to interact with their legal advisers.
The theme for the day was that we are living through unprecedented times of change with new technology leading to a raft of new and innovative products coming into our market. Delegates were told that ignoring the changes was not an option – it’s up to the conveyancing community to be aware of the impact that technology is having and to take the time to look at them individually and to consider the impact they could have on their business.
Paul Smee, Chair of the Conveyancing Association said: “It’s not for trade bodies like ours to ‘pick winners’ but we do want to work with the proptech and fintech companies that are looking at our industry to bring their ideas to you so that you can look at them and decide for yourself if they would be a good fit for your businesses.”
The conference also looked at the progress that’s been made in the last 12 months since the government published their Call for Evidence on improving the home buying and selling process.
Property expert, and radio and television consumer champion Kate Faulkner chaired a panel to cover the five key areas identified by the Home Buying and Selling Group (HBSG) as necessary to improve the home moving process for the consumer. With interest parties from surveyors to removal companies, housing charities to surveyors to lenders it was great to see a real cross section of views and perspectives being represented.
Matt Prior from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government opened the event whilst Law Commissioner Professor Nick Hopkins updated the group on the proposed changes to the Land Registry Act 2002
