Race the Tube
We have all at one time or other wondered whether public transport is actually the fastest way to travel. This was put to the test in a recent and popular viral video created by runner James Heptonstall and his friend Noel Carroll. ‘Race the Tube’ shows Heptonstall racing a Circle Line tube train between the stations of Mansion House and Cannon Street – and winning.
Starting on the Mansion House platform having exited an Eastbound train he ascends almost 8m to the surface emerging on Garlick Hill, turning right upon leaving the station then first left onto Cloak Lane. Then there follows a straight sprint of almost 250m before he arrives at Cannon Street. His challenge is not over however as he still has to get through the ticket barrier and descend 4.4m back to the level of the tube — all in 80 seconds flat!
The route chosen is not actually the shortest distance between two stations on the network — that distinction is held by Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden stations. That route would, however, have the added challenge of dodging between the tourists.
If you would like to find out where the London Underground is ‘running’ in relation to your property, the GroundSure Underground report identifies whether a property is located on or adjacent to a tunnel network within 1km. This data is unlikely to be identified in a standard conveyancing search and so by purchasing GroundSure Underground, you can ensure appropriate due diligence for your client.
