What the next government must do – the lenders’ perspective

It’s virtually impossible to predict how this year’s General Election will affect the property market and impact conveyancing. With just months to go until the big day, many industry professionals are putting forward strong arguments and proposals that aim to advise the Government on the best policies that will favour the property sector. But are there any key issues that need addressing in order to bolster this ever-fluctuating market?

The latest release is from The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML), who have created an animated representation of their 2015 manifesto. This video is directed at political parties, and is from the perspective of mortgage lenders in particular. However the key points raised could have a positive impact on conveyancing, should the proposals be utilised.

Director General of the CML, Paul Smee, raises the point that the mortgage market is a high-value industry and therefore should be a primary focus within all political party campaigns. A cohesive housing strategy is imperative for the overall economic growth of the nation, and the CML are wanting to play a key role within this advancement.

Some of the main points raised within the video include:

  • Improving the housing supply to better meet demand
  • Focussing on lending into retirement and having housing supply to reflect our ageing population
  • Providing support to the risks involved in change of circumstances

Are there any issues that need focus in order to improve the outlook for conveyancers? Are you in support of the featured proposals put forward by the CML?
