Surveyors Association announces new Chairman to drive plans for growth

The Residential Property Surveyors Association (RPSA) has today announced that Alan Milstein has been appointed the new Chairman, to lead its future plans for growth.  Alan Milstein is a qualified surveyor and owner of CHIPS Surveyors Ltd, which is a specialist residential surveying business.  He will take the post of Chairman with immediate effect.
Mr Milstein is taking over the role from outgoing Chairman Martin Tate, who is stepping down after two years.  Mr Tate will remain on the RPSA Council, and will continue supporting the association’s role in representing the surveying community and raising awareness about the importance of surveys as part of the home buying process.
Alan Milstein is an existing member of the RPSA, and has been heavily involved in the association’s activities over the last 3 years.  These activities include the development and launch of the Home Condition Survey (HCS).  This is a bespoke property survey offering buyers a concise and reliable evaluation of their future purchase.
In his position as Chairman, Mr Milstein will take an increasingly active role in promotion of this survey, and will also look to increase the general profile of surveys within the public domain.
Alan Milstein commented:
“As an association we have an important role to play in raising awareness among home buyers of the importance of commissioning a survey when making a purchase.  It is well documented that there is currently a great deal of confusion among consumers, with the majority believing that the lender’s valuation constitutes a survey and eliminates the need for them to commission their own independent and more in-depth survey of a property.  This is a big area of concern and we have been working closely with our members and the conveyancing community to address this.
“In 2010, we launched a solution to the market that will allow conveyancers to communicate the survey options available to consumers in a simple and concise manner, as part of their standard correspondence with the buyer.  While this has been well received, we still have a long way to go to encourage the wider conveyancing community to adopt this approach.  However, I am looking forward to the challenge and to continuing Martin’s great work by further raising the profile of property surveys and their important role as part of the home buying process.”
The RPSA is dedicated to delivering a range of the highest possible quality surveying products to serve the needs of consumers.  The first product it developed was the Home Condition Survey (HCS) which is now being distributed nationally through a panel working with homebuyers’ conveyancers.  The panel has 200 members across England and Wales.  For more information email info@rpsa.org.uk or call 08714 237189.
