SLC endorses The Conveyancing Association protocol

The Management Board of the Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) has endorsed the Conveyancing Association’s (CA) Protocol and is recommending its adoption by all Society members. The protocol is the first single reference point on best practice for licensed conveyancers and solicitors.

The CA worked together with Connells, Move with Us, Countrywide and LSL Property Services, to develop the Protocol, which was officially launched in December 2013.

The Protocol is designed to collate guidance from the Law Society, the Council for Licensed Conveyancers, the Legal Ombudsman, the Council of Mortgage Lenders and case law.

The SLC board members took the decision to endorse the Protocol which, after careful evaluation, they believe, is fit for purpose and sets out sensible practices for conveyancers to follow.

The CA believes the Protocol could shorten the length of time of a house transaction by up to five working days – and that it will ultimately enable licensed conveyancers and solicitors to provide their customers with a better service.

Simon Law, Chairman of the SLC, said:

"As specialist conveyancers, regulated by the respected Council of Licensed Conveyancers (CLC), the profession is well reputed for its client focus and expertise. Adoption of the CA protocol is an overt demonstration of the commitment to excellence by the Licensed Conveyancing community. Many SLC members have already signed up to the CA Protocol and we believe that those that have not would be following the proscribed practices anyway as a matter of routine."

Eddie Goldsmith, Chairman of the Conveyancing Association, said:
"Since its launch, we have always encouraged CA members and non-members alike to adopt the Protocol and we are absolutely delighted to hear the Society of Licensed Conveyancers’ recent decision to endorse it."

"The Protocol is our industry’s first ever single point of reference for solicitors and conveyancers alike -aiming to facilitate communication between all parties involved in a transaction and, in doing so, streamlining the conveyancing process and cutting down the time currently being lost as a result of poor communication.

"It is an industry-wide effort to provide our customers with the very best service possible – and it is really fantastic that fellow organisations such as the Society of Licensed Conveyancers are jumping on board with this initiative."
