Here are the latest scam alerts as issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Malware emails claiming to be from YVA Solicitors LLP
The SRA have seen emails claiming to be from an “Isaac Bebra” at YVA Solicitors. The emails contain what it says is an attached contract document however the document may be malware.
The email includes genuine information about the firm such as it’s address and telephone number. It also states Isaac Bebra is a partner at the firm however the SRA regulate no such individual.
Phone calls misusing the name of The Chancery Partnership
The SRA say a member of the public has received a phone call claiming to be from The Chancery Partnership in relation to a potential claim. The caller attempted to obtain the credit card details. The SRA has been informed that the call was made from the telephone number 01978 638 917.
The Chancery Partnership has confirmed that it does not have any connection to the telephone call made or the telephone number 01978 638 917.
What to do
The SRA say when a firm’s or individual’s identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means.
You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual’s or firm’s practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
