Practising Certificate renewals commence today

The SRA has confirmed that the 2012 round of Practising Certificate renewals will start today, Thursday, 1 November and run to the Friday 14 December.

Much work has taken place to make the system easier to use following the first round of online renewals in spring this year.

In addition, a range of support measures has been put in place.

These measures include:

– Detailed guidance provided to organisational contacts and authorised signatories six weeks in advance of the launch date

– Publishing the text of the bulk renewal form questions and related guidance on the web before the ‘go live’ date

– Detailed Frequently Asked Questions available on the SRA website

– Top tips and a readiness checklist to help those completing the forms to prioritise their workload

– A redesign of the mySRA web pages

The Contact Centre will now be open for extended hours until the 15th December (0800-18.00, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday; 09.30-18.00, Tuesday; 10.00-14.00 Saturday). Tel: UK 0870 606 2555; Int: +44 (0121) 329 6800

The SRA have produced a webinair which explains the bulk renewals form step-by-step.

This is available at: http://www.sra.org.uk/solicitors/freedom-in-practice/news-events/webinars/mysra-preview-renewal-2012-13.page

A further webinar is scheduled for 21 November.

SRA Chief Executive, Antony Townsend, said: "Learning from last year, we organised user engagement sessions, sought views on the wording of questions and demonstrated the revised online system to a wide range of contacts among those we regulate.

“We held sessions to ensure applications were more user-friendly, and provided detailed information to those responsible for competing applications in advance of today’s launch date.

"We are not complacent. There are bound to be glitches and some of you will — as with any IT system – experience difficulties.

“However, we hope that the processes we have put in place will allow you and your colleagues to have a more positive experience than last year.”
