Law Society has grave concerns on Santander

The society has confirmed it is holding urgent discussions with Santander following their recent panel cuts.

They have expressed concerns regarding the actions of Santander in reducing the membership of its panel.

Law Society chief executive Desmond Hudson said: “We retain grave reservations about the methods they are using and are concerned about the effects both on firms and consumers.”

Mr Hudson confirmed they are entering into urgent discussions with Santander which they hope will deliver a mutually acceptable solution.

They will keep members informed of any further developments.

Mr Hudson added: “In the meantime, in fairness to Santander their appeal process is still in place.

“Our Practice Advice Service has helped some firms successfully appeal the bank’s decision to remove them from the panel.”

They understand other firms have also appealed and been reinstated. Mr Hudson advises members to be removed from the panel to appeal.

Solicitors who have been removed from Santander’s panel in recent weeks should contact the Law Society’s Practice Advice Service on 0870 606 2522 or send a message via http://www.lawsociety.org.uk/productsandservices/services/practiceadvice/contactus.law
