Law Society appoints new Chief Executive

The Law Society has announced the appointment of Catherine Dixon as its new chief executive.

Catherine will begin her new role in the coming months and will take over from Desmond Hudson, who will retire at the end of the month.

With an impressive career history behind her, including working as head of legal and subsequently commercial director of Bupa, being a director at Vancouver Coastal Health Authority in her time in Canada, to chief executive of the NHS Litigation Authority which indemnifies the NHS against legal claims, the Law Society is hoping its new appointment will take the organisation forward.

President of the Law Society Andrew Caplen, said: ‘I am delighted that we have someone with Catherine’s track record in the profession to help take the organisation forward. I very much look forward to working with her.’

Catherine said she is ‘excited and very honoured’ to join the Law Society and added that she wanted to ensure ‘the Law Society has a strong voice for all our members.’

She went on to say: ‘I want to help the organisation represent, promote and support the profession across the spectrum of practice, speaking up for them and creating an environment in which the entire profession can flourish.’

Andrew Caplen thanked outgoing chief executive Desmond Hudson, saying: ‘On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank Des for his tireless commitment to the organisation and the profession for the last eight years. We all wish him well for his retirement.’

Interim arrangements before Catherine begins her role are being made and will be announced by the Law Society in due course.
