January 2017 Land Registry price paid data

Price Paid Data from Land Registry sets out the details of residential and commercial land and property sales in England and Wales.

During January 2017, 97,445 sales were lodged for registration.

Of these:

  • 69,421 were freehold
  • 14,503 were new builds
  • 25,875 sales occurred in January 2017
  • 530 were residential sales in January 2017 in England and Wales for over £1 million
  • 322 were residential sales in January 2017 in London for over £1 million

When looking at the type of property lodged for registration, there was also variation in January’s figures:

  • 21,361 were detached
  • 23,509 were semi-detached
  • 25,261 were terraced
  • 19,888 were a flat/maisonette
  • 7,426 were classed as ‘other’

In January 2017, the most expensive residential sale took place in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, where a property sold for £24,200,000.

The cheapest, however, occurred in Birmingham, where a semi-detached property sold for £14,760.

Commercially speaking, the most expensive sale during January 2017 took place in the City of London for £41,500,000. The cheapest commercial sale occurred for £250 in Romford, Greater London.
