First Registrations remain high in 2010

Since it became compulsory to register changes in ownership of land and property some time ago you would think that there would be very few First Registration applications being submitted today.
However, new figures received by Today’s Conveyancer show the total number of First Registrations submitted to Land Registry offices in 2010 were in excess of 130,000, an average of around 10,000 per month.
If you break these figures down a little they show that many of the applications are being submitted by Local Authorities and Land Registry offices, with Lancashire County Council topping the chart with a massive 2731 applications (an average of 228 applications per month).
There are many Solicitors and Licensed Conveyancers also submitting a high volume of applications Eversheds LLP are leading the pack with 1,910 applications submitted in 2010, (an average of 159 per month).  Enact Conveyancing Ltd are flying the flag for Licensed Conveyancers with 916 applications (an average of 76 First Registration applications per month).
I think it would be quite interesting to compare the figures for 2010 to the figures for say 2006, when we were still in the housing boom, to see whether the rate of applications has slowed down as much as the housing market has.
Today’s Conveyancer obtains information every month from Land Registry regarding the number of applications that account holders make.  If you wish to obtain this data each month for a year including the 2010 information please email your request to info@todaysconveyancer.co.uk.  The cost of this service is £30 plus VAT per annum
