East Yorkshire bucking the trend of post-Brexit housing dip

East Yorkshire is showing signs of positivity in the housing market despite UK figures revealing there has been a slow down across the country, according to Heptonstalls Solicitors.

The Goole and Pontefract-based firm has seen a notable increase in matters for its residential conveyancing services over recent months which is in stark contrast to a recent national report.

Figures from the Residential Market Survey commissioned by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in July have indicated a fall in sales and enquiries across the country.

Uncertainty after the vote to leave the EU and recent tax changes are thought to be contributory factors in the decline however Mike Fish, residential property expert at Heptonstalls, believes the area isn’t following the national trend.

He said: “Having worked in Heptonstalls’ residential property department for almost 30 years, we’ve found this time of year to be traditionally one of the quieter periods.

“This year however we have been inundated with matters and, despite uncertainty from factors such as Brexit affecting the country as a whole, the local market is performing incredibly strongly from what we can see.

“The figures from the RICS survey do allude to a more positive outlook in the long-term, and for now at least our area is certainly bucking the current downward trend which is great news.”

The RICS survey indicates that sales expectations are due to stabilise over the coming months with a more positive forecast anticipated for the next 12 months.
