Conveyancer on the move

Licensed Conveyancer Caroline Rooks has joined McCarthy Bennett Holland, one of Wigan’s best-known law firms, from Bernadette Kearns Ltd.

MBH Solicitors are delighted to have secured the services of Caroline, a highly experienced and well-connected Licensed Conveyancer. A Wiganer born and bred, Caroline has worked in the local conveyancing market for the last 12 years as a partner and director at Bernadette Kearns but has now decided to make the move to MBH to further her career.

About Caroline

Currently living in Winstanley with her husband and young daughter, Caroline attended Hawkley Hall High School and Winstanley College before graduating with a law degree from the University of Teeside. She completed her Legal Practice Course in Northumberland and then returned to Wigan where she worked as a trainee solicitor at Scott Rees & Co Solicitors in Skelmersdale, focussing in particular on the areas of personal injury and conveyancing.

From Scott Rees, Caroline joined Bernadette Kearns Ltd as a conveyancer and enjoyed a successful 12 years with the company, being promoted to partner and director with managerial responsibility.

Why MBH?

Caroline says:

“My role at MBH will allow me to stay within my specialist field of conveyancing but to expand on my experience, working on plot sales for developers and carrying out more commercial conveyancing work for corporate clients. The opportunity arose at the right time as I looked to move away from management and return to conveyancing practice; there is also scope at MBH for me to return to the Roll of Solicitors in the future, should I wish to do so. MBH is a firm which has been established in Wigan for a long time; they have a strong, local and loyal client base and the company is forward-thinking in its approach. I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to join the team.”

The market recovery

Caroline’s move comes at a time when the UK is seeing renewed vigour in the property market. Growing activity, stabilising (and rising) prices and greater positivity means that MBH has seen a significant increase in workload across the Borough in recent months. Caroline comments:

“New mortgage rules were brought in by the FSA in April 2014 to introduce much tighter lending restrictions; obtaining a mortgage can now be a lengthier process with stringent checks being carried out by lenders. This led to a brief dip as IFAs and others in the market became accustomed to the new rules. However, this hasn’t affected the intentions of borrowers and, as the economy continues to recover, we are now starting to see a backlog with IFAs and mortgage companies. I expect that there will be a further surge in the market in the forthcoming months as the rules become more commonplace and borrowers look to complete their moves in time for Christmas.”
