CLC publishes business plan for next year

The Council for Licensed Conveyancers published yesterday its high level business plan to 2014, revealing that it will play to its strengths in property law.

The business plan is designed to cope with the changing demands of regulating the sector whilst retaining a key focus on the organisations strengths.

Chair, CLC, Anna Bradley said: “The specialisation of the CLC is a real strength. It is the major reason why there is no need for a quality scheme for Licensed Conveyancers.

“The Council has decided to build on that strength by allowing the CLC to develop in response to the demands of changing legal services market but with a clear focus on conveyancing and related property law services.”

Chief Executive Sheila Kumar said: “The profession we regulate is qualified to degree level in conveyancing and that qualification also requires practical experience. Their CPD is geared to that specialisation.

“Before putting this business plan together we listened to what conveyancers were telling us about how they plan to develop their businesses in the next few years.

“It is clear that a focused approach by their regulator will be well-suited to that development as the housing market continues its recovery and the development of new business models continues.”

Ms Kumar said that she expected to see a huge amount of change in the conveyancing sector going forwards.
