Chief Executive, Ed Lester set to leave Land Registry

Only a year and a half after he was appointed, Chief Executive of the Land Registry, Ed Lester has announced he is planning on leaving the company in early 2015. Speculation suggests this could be due to the latest decision by ministers to restructure plans for the registry’s service delivery.

Since becoming Chief Executive, as well as Chief Land Registrar, Lester has dramatically enhanced the way the Land Registry is structured and has set in place major changes for the future. His legacy also includes a powerful and well-established management team set in place.

On announcing his departure, Lester said about his time at the Land Registry, It has been an enjoyable and extraordinary privilege to be given the opportunity to be part of the rich history of Land Registry.

Prior to him leaving, the process will start to appoint a replacement in order to establish a successful hand-over. Lester has high hopes for whoever takes over his role, saying, During my time I have been struck by the professionalism and enthusiasm of the staff, even during challenging times and I know they will continue that support for my successor.

Lester has certainly had a positive influence on the company. Chair of the Land Register, Mark Boyle commented in response to the announcement, The Board and I are sad that Ed has decided to leave Land Registry, but fully support his decision. Ed has played a key part in formulating a sustainable vision for Land Registry’s future.

When the time comes for his departure, we wish him all the very best for the future.

It’s not yet been reported where Lester will be heading once he leaves the Land Registry. However, the qualified accountant and former Chief of the Student Loans Company is sure to expand on his previous business success, wherever he decides to venture.
