The digitisation and centalisation of Local Land Charge data could take as long as six years once it begins at the end of next year according to Land Registry.
The currently public body aim to have the job completed by 2023.
Land Registry recently published a guide for local authorities on what work was required before the digitisation begins in 2017.
The guide states: “Through the Local Land Charges (LLC) programme, Land Registry will deliver a single, digital LLC Register.
“The provisions in the Infrastructure Act 2015 set up the framework for the transfer of responsibility for LLC from local authorities to Land Registry. Under these provisions, Land Registry will provide a single LLC Register, standardising the cost, speed and format of results.
“We will do this by centralising and digitising the current 326 LLC Registers in England, held in a range of formats, and replacing them with a single digital register, available online.
“This will provide a consistent LLC service to customers, supporting wider government priorities to make property transactions easier, quicker and cheaper.”
